Un Gars Une Fille - France 2

Un Gars Une Fille
Un Gars Une Fille (A Guy a Girl) is a popular French comedy series that ran on the National French TV channel France 2. The show began in 1999 and eventually it would pull in a third of France's TV population (5-7 million) during the time slot it aired in!

Un Gars Une Fille revolves around a French couple, Jean and Alexandre, and how they acts in often very normal situations. Some skits for example: "Un Gars Une Fille Shopping de Noël" (Christmas Shopping) show us the absurdities and indecision involved in Christmas Shopping. The chemistry between Alex and Jean is so heart felt that you forget they are acting. After several years of pretending to be husband and wife, the two stars "blended reality with fiction". Jean and Alex both left their significant others and married in 2003.

The show's format consists of short skits running anywhere from 5-7 minutes long; this probably contributes to the popularity factor because many jokes are made in such a short time. In addition, the skit stays fresh and is not overplayed to the point where something doesn't become funny. I really enjoy the theme music, the common jokes, and the relatable predicaments.

COMPREHENSION DIFFICULTY: EASY
Like all my music reviews, I start with a French to English translation then critique the lyrics below.

Regarde-toi, assise dans l'ombreLook at you, sitting in the shadeÀ la lueur de nos mensongesAt the glow of our liesUne main glacées jusqu'à l'ongleA hand frozen to the nail
Regarde-toi à l'autre pôleLook at you, at the other endFermer les yeux sur ce qui nous rongeClosing your eyes on what gnaws us awayOn a changé à la longueWe change in the long run
[Refrain]On a parcouru le cheminWe traveled the pathOn a tenu la distanceWe held the distanceEt je te hais de tout mon corpsAnd I hate you with all of my bodyMais je t'adoreBut I love youOn a parcouru le cheminWe traveled the pathOn a souffert en silenceWe suffered in silenceEt je te hais de tout mon corpsAnd I hate you with all of my bodyMais je t'adore encoreBut I love you still
Je vis dans une maison de verreI live in a glass houseA moitié rempli de ton eauFilled half-way with your waterSans s'arrêter le niveau monteWithout stopping, the level rises
Je suis le fantôme qui s'égareI am the ghost that wandersJe suis l'étranger à ton coeurI am the stranger in your heartSeulement regarde comme on est seulOnly watching as if we are alone
[Refrain x3]
This KYO song is different because they teamed up with a Belgium singer, Sita. The song's easy and repetitive nature both help and hurt my overall impression of it. I really like the song up until the end of the second verse, once the refrain starts to repeat I just skip to the next song. The singing is beautiful but the song's message isn't really anything special. KYO will be featured again on FrenchCrazy, so stay tuned! Everyday French Fashion - Céline, 20 ans

Video not working? Watch it on youtube.

Everyday French Fashion
To answer the question of "What do French people wear everyday?" Street Style is a featured portion of madmoiZelle that showcases a different French person each day! The entire video is in French, but I encourage beginners to still watch it and see what you can understand.

Today's Street Style focuses on Céline, a Parisian girl who finished her education in communications, and has started her own fashion blog, Bon Baisers d'Ailleurs which is actually kinda cool. This video quickly goes through the myriad of fashion statements this girl made for the day.

Céline first shows us her polka-dotted headband which compliments her outfit rather nicely. Then, we are introduced to her little bow-tie necklace which was made by an English lady (Kate). Her parisian sweater actually sparkles in the light (it's a glitter-like material). She has a designer, studded handbag from England which complements her skirt almost perfectly. Celiné also happens to be wearing nice belt  with two centered birds, from H&M. Flabrice shows us a close up of her "wine-colored" red leggings and her H&M booties. Finally, Céline gives us a glimpse of her "key" ring, which I find that pretty creative.

"I never really fell in love with Street Style, but on the other hand I am totally a fan of her blog. I adore EVERYTHING that she's wearing, it's exactly my style. And it's crazy, I suddenly have the desire to go shop some more.  And like many others have already said, FINALLY a normal, simple blogger that teaches in the manner of "Madame Everyone". A true breath of fresh air! She is going directly to my daily RSS feeds.
P.S: she has some magnificent hair, in fact she's is simply super beautiful."
"J'ADORE CETTE BAGUE!
Oui je crie pour montrer mon enthousiasme... Et cette fille est trop choupinette, j'adore sa coiffure certes impossible à réaliser avec mes cheveux du moment mais je sais être patiente."

"I LOVE THAT RING! Yes, I screamed to show my enthusiasm... This girl is such a sweetheart, I love her hairstyle although it would be impossible for my hair at this moment, I know how to be patient."

Comments were taken from madmoiZelle's website. That seems to be everything to say about Céline! Check back for more everyday French styles. Any comments can be posted below.

Pain Au Chocolat

Des Pains au Chocolat - a French delight
There is nothing more heavenly than starting off your French morning with a buttery Pain Au Chocolat and a hot beverage. Why am I so obsessed? Well maybe because these things are essentially croissants (delicious), with chocolate stuffed inside (more delicious), so what's NOT to love?!

These square-shaped French pastries can be found at the local boulangerie or market. They are created in a very similar fashion to croissants, the final product arriving with a brilliant sheen and a stick or two of French chocolate within. Les pains au chocolat are relatively inexpensive, this helps fuel my love for them. Carrefour sells these pasteries by bundles of 6, thus for a low price you can have breakfast for a week!  (I personally prefer getting them from the local bakeries). I found an added bonus for tourists who don't have much proficiency in French, the ease of obtaining this delight only requires you pointing and saying "un pain au chocolat s'il vous plaît."
