We are an elderly (both 87) lived in France over the years perhaps a year, although broken in segments. We are French Crazy!!! If we knew how to find a place we could afford to live, we’d put our things in storage, and leave here (USA) . We studied at the Alliance Francaise, for some 6 months, then off to the Mission Field in Africa to work for many years.
Now we still can not get it out of our systems— last year we took a cruise on the rivers in France. But we come back the same, wanting to go back.!!!! We are both in great health, physically and spiritually, but still France calls us back. What advise can anyone give. There is peace in France.
Completely agree with your list! Healthcare is a big one. It’s nice to know that if you get hit by a bus, you won’t bankrupt your family trying to get fixed up. I’m American and I always hear friends’ medical bill woes from home. So happy with healthcare and medicine here! Great post!
Where do you work where you find that so funny!? Studies show that France has a rather productive workforce although I found a quote which summarizes my thoughts on those studies:
“The concept of productivity is not one that many businesses feel or measure directly, unlike, say, inflation or unemployment. Measuring productivity, always an inexact science, only gets more difficult as the economy becomes more complex.” (James Sproule)
Now, as a tourist it may seem like there is disfunction in France. Go to a restuarant and they may not have many waiters - you’ll go through great pains to get your check. Likewise, turn on the news and you’ll find the SNCF is on strike (again). Believe me, things are working in France!

I am a student of the French language. At this point, I would be happy to travel there. Living there is a dream!
Great article, how did you go about the process of moving to France?

“The French are productive when they’re at work” that actually made me laugh :d
